Rick Piche

RPN BScPN, MBSR Facilitator & Yoga Instructor

Hello, I'm Rick. I employ a positive psychology and trauma-informed approach which focuses on individuals’ strengths. I converse with everyone using nonjudging inquiry. There are no wrong answers. We move along at the individual’s pace with goals in mind. I see wellness and illness through the lens of the individuals’ nervous system. Having completed trauma-informed yoga certification, I use these principles and skills to bring safety and a level of comfort. I assist others in understanding their response to stress and use mind-body approaches to support them in calming themselves. As a team, the individual and I discuss the areas of concern and areas of growth required to be one’s best self. We take inventory of all skills employed to create safety, security and growth. I counsel individuals with a solution-focused mindset using a bottom-up approach (embodiment practices). Clients have opportunities to learn and practice new skills to compliment the presently used skills which are effective.

Services: Solution focused therapy, DBT,  shadow work, embodiment training through mindfulness and meditation, yoga, somatic experiencing, tapping and polyvagal tuning.

Ages: Ages 10 and up

More about me

I have been practicing psychiatric nursing since I graduated in 1984. I have been teaching yoga for over 6 years. I am trained in critical incident stress management and delivered these services for 15 years. Along my life’s journey, I have taken trainings and certifications in mindfulness and yoga. I have taught Mindfulness-Based-Stress-Reduction (MBSR), an 8-week course for 9 years. I completed a 200-hour yoga certification in 2019.

I have learned that everyone wants to feel safe, heard, not suffer and that change is hard. To understand oneself, an awareness with acceptance is most important. This is mindfulness. I believe that freedom develops when there is a sense of empowerment. Freedom is growth-oriented and unique to every person.

The following are some of the mind-body practices that I offer:

  • Mindfulness training

  • Meditation

  • Yoga

  • Vagal toning (calming your nervous system)

  • Breathing exercises

  • Tapping

  • Self-compassion
