Meet Laurie!
Hi, I'm Laurie! I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from the University of Manitoba and am registered with the Manitoba College of Social Workers. In 2025 I completed my certification in Grief Counselling, along with a specialized series of courses in Reproductive Loss. Through a 40-year career in child welfare, as both a social worker and a manager, I developed an expertise working with victims of child abuse, sexual abuse, and family violence, and I trained in trauma-informed counselling through specialized training in San Diego, California.
More about me
I am retired following a 40-year career in child welfare, so I am deeply familiar with the ravaging effects of trauma and grief.

For 5 years I co-facilitated a support group for widows. As a widow myself, this experience sparked my passion for helping others through their grief journey. I believe I am a genuine, respectful counsellor who can help you heal in a real and authentic way. Together we will develop the skills to help you cope with your loss or heal from your trauma.

For a number of years, I also taught Cultural Competency in Counselling at Assiniboine Community College, giving students the opportunity to explore their own biases and how they contribute to individual and systemic discrimination.
